Hello World!

Hello World!

This page is a chronicle of the journeys of the MV Adventuress.  Adventuress is a 2016 DeFever 49 Euro and her maiden voyage is set to begin at the end of August, 2018.

But let us begin with some proper introductions.  We are Adventuress’ owners, Robert and Micheline Murphy.  We have been boating the Pacific Northwest since 2009. In 2009, we bought our first boat, Safari.  Safari is a 42 Ocean Alexander.  On Safari, we’ve been on the Pacific Ocean, to the Pacific Northwest’s favorite summer boating destination, Desolation Sound, and generally all over the Puget Sound.  We just bought Adventuress this month, and we intend Adventuress to be our “retirement” boat.  (We also believe in being prepared, so even though retirement is some years away, Murphys are already practicing!)

The two boats are quite different.  Safari is a sedan semi-displacement hull.  That means she’s designed to go at speeds that pop her hull up above the water–think Miami Vice and Don Johnson’s speedboat.  Maybe not that fast.    Sedan refers to her interior layout; the salon in the aft and living quarters forward and below.  In contrast, Adventuress is a full displacement hull pilothouse.  Adventuress was never meant to go fast… single digits knots is all she can muster.  A pilothouse has an enclosed wheelhouse to pilot the boat from, which would be better for boating in the PNW’s cooler wetter weather.  Adventuress is also fully accessible by the four-footed members of our family.  On Safari, we piloted from the flying bridge, which was accessed from a ladder.  All in all, after nearly a decade of boating on Safari, our boating habits have changed from when we first began, and Adventuress is much more suited to the boating style we prefer.

So we saw a man about a boat….

The maiden voyage of the Adventuress will take us from Seabrook Texas some 1200 nautical miles east to Fort Lauderdale.  In Fort Lauderdale, she will be loaded on board a cargo container and shipped to northern waters.  When she arrives, we will meet her in Vancouver BC and bring her the last leg of her maiden voyage through Puget Sound waters to her home on Lake Union.

Follow us as we document the voyages of Adventuress.
